Description:
Under the supervision of the Aztec Aquaplex Coordinator and Lead Lifeguard, this position is responsible for the safety and well being of the Aztec Aquaplex guests.
- Maintain pool surveillance for their designated coverage zone.
- Actively enforce facility rules and regulations.
- Keeping in mind the 10/20 rule at all times.
- Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning.
- Provide emergency care as necessary including but not limited to first aid and CPR.
- Participate in facilities clean-up and maintenance; testing and monitoring water chemistry and temperature when necessary.
- Inspect pool facilities and report any unsafe conditions.
- Respond to questions and inquiries from the public regarding pool regulations, use of facilities and various aquatic programs offered.
- Fill out and maintain daily reports of the facility’s activities and participation numbers.
- Stay alert and guard the safety of facility patrons.
- Open and close pool and related facilities, ensuring the facility is completely unoccupied upon closure, and tarping the pools as required.
- Maintain physical fitness, by swimming and practicing rescue skills.
- Be personally responsible for keeping certifications up to date.
- Help in the daily set-up of the pool, and the set-up and break-down of the facility during special events special events.
- Participate in mandatory monthly in-service training.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Work with the Guest Services staff to help run an efficient facility. Work with the Aquatics Maintenance Engineer as required. Interact with all Campus Recreation employees with a positive attitude.
Education:

Aztec Aquaplex Aquatics Instructor
Description:
Under the supervision of the Aquaplex Coordinator and Lifeguard Lead, this position is required to teach the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim programs.
- Make block lesson plans to follow for assigned lessons.
- Maintain the safety of the students and the integrity of the program for the duration of the lesson.
- Test and review future and current students to determine swimming ability and class levels.
- Occasionally, teach private swimming lessons, diving classes and/or synchronized swimming courses.
- Set-up all equipment required for lessons and clean up equipment once lessons are completed for the day.
- Fill out, complete and return all attendance records, logs and report cards in a timely manner to the Lifeguard Lead.
- Help the public by answering questions about the facility and the lessons offered.
- Enter the water to teach all levels of swimming.
- Choose age appropriate games and songs for the class levels taught.
- Perform excellent customer service by being courteous and friendly with all lesson parents.
- Enforce the facility rules and regulations within your class and with all guests and members.
- Attend staff meeting on at least a monthly basis.
- Communicate customer comments, facility issues, policy questions or other important information as appropriate to your supervisor.
- Perform “public relations” duties in the facility; act as liaison to users; if appropriate, identify yourself and greet students, parents and ARC members as they enter and exit the facility.

Relationships:
This position will have interaction with the other Aquaplex guest services staff, Aquaplex lifeguards and the public on a daily basis. Strict reliability to ensure all classes begin on time is very important.
Qualifications:
This position requires at least one year of experience teaching swim lessons to children aged 6-months to 12-years.

Aztec Aquaplex Building Services Lead
Description:
Under the general direction of the Aquaplex Engineer, the Aquatic Building Services Lead shall perform all tasks of a Aquatic Maintenance Assistants including:
- Changing light bulbs and florescent lamps on the interior and the exterior of the building.
- Assisting with monitoring and cleanup of locker rooms, washrooms and public areas.
- Ensure that the pool deck is free of debris at all time, monitor pool water chemistry, maintain pump room and all parts of Aquaplex facility.
- Complete needed work orders (Maximo) to maintain the facility with safety as our #1 priority.
- Assists with opening the pools by removing the pool tarps and ensuring lane lines are set-up.
- Assist with cleaning, preventive maintenance and repairs of building fixtures and facility equipment systems including electrical, lighting, showers, bathrooms, and associated plumbing systems.
- Assist with monitoring the automated chemical disinfectant system by taking regular readings, changing filters, and ensuring pumps are working properly.
- Responsible for performing regular and daily configuration changes that may include moving a heavy 75-ft. bulkhead and will include moving and arranging the waterpolo goals.
- Assist with repairs to carpet, floors, walls, concrete, fixtures, equipment and furniture.
- Assists with monitoring and cleaning the restrooms, locker rooms, washrooms, and public areas.
- On a regular basis, check equipment and locker rooms as assigned.
- Ensure daily chemical reports and statistics are completed according to code.
- Ensure storage areas are clean and well-maintained.
- Assist with ensuring all custodial supplies are well-stocked and available.
- Assist in making minor repairs, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment.
- Assist in custodial and cleaning tasks as needed.
- Assist with the moving, relocation and set-up of furniture, fixtures and equipment.
- Assists with regular maintenance, such as polishing the stainless steel throughout the facility, aiding in emptying the pools, scrubbing and cleaning the pool tile and power washing the deck.
- Meet at least monthly with Aquaplex staff and other Campus Rec Building Services employees.
- Assists with other duties at the Aztec Recreation Center on slow days.
- Direct and maintain excellent patron services and relations. Respond to suggestions, complaints, needs and interests in a timely manner.
- Assist with closing the facility by covering the pool every evening with pool tarps.

Special Considerations:
Must be a part of the Work Study Program (negotiable for right candidate), must be an SDSU student carrying six units or more per semester as a regularly enrolled student. Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, pool chemicals and sand while performing various tasks should be expected. The ideal candidate for this position will have flexible schedule and be able to work early morning shifts and/or evening shifts. Excellent interpersonal skills needed.

Aztec Aquaplex Office Lead
Description:
Under the supervision of the Aztec Aquaplex Coordinator, responsible for the general clerical and support functions for the Aztec Aquaplex.
- Ensure all deposits are completed and given to the Aztec Center Ticket Office daily; complete weekly clearing reports following A.S. Accounting procedures.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate and directly supervise all Guest Services staff; ensure all staff attend in-service training prior to beginning work; ensure on-going training sessions are held on a regular basis for all part-time staff; develop and enforce all rules and regulations outlined in the employee manual; evaluate each employee once per semester and provide feedback for improvement.
- Ensure all Guest Services staff has completed the necessary paperwork (A.S. job application, W-4, information sheet, Federal I-9 form) prior to beginning work.
- Ensure all Kronos timekeeping duties are completed; ensure all missed punches are added prior to the end of the pay period; post regular exception reports; print punch detail after pay period ending dates and disseminate to Supervisor for review.
- Ensure all Federal Workstudy staff has completed administrative paperwork prior to beginning work; complete all monthly timekeeping duties and paperwork in agreement with appropriate timeline.
- Ensure the daily disbursement of US and campus mail.
- Ensure lost 'n' found is organized and follows proper procedures.
- Maintain emergency contact information for all employees; maintains master telephone/address list.
- Ensure an adequate reserve of supplies, including letterhead and envelopes, is maintained; conduct regular inventory of supplies and reorder as necessary.
- Attend all staff meetings with direct supervisor and other Coordinators on a regular basis. Work closely with all Aztec Recreation Center staff; participate in professional and departmental training and development through active involvement in staff meetings.

Relationships:

Tennis Court Lead Supervisor
Description:
Under the supervision of the full-time Aztec Aquaplex Coordinator, the Tennis Court Lead Supervisor will be responsible for customer service, facility supervision, court maintenance, administrative functions and promotional assistance of the SDSU Tennis Courts during recreational play.
Typical Tasks:
- Coordinate the daily supervision of the SDSU Tennis courts during open recreational play including the recognition of ARC members and paying (ARC day pay or 10-play punch card) guests. Ensure non-paying players do not use the courts; ensure interior and exterior doors are locked and unlocked as appropriate;
- Ensure court supervisor is highly visible at all times; maintain communication via walkie-talkie radio with supervisor.
- Recruit, train, schedule and evaluate three-to-four part-time ARC Facility or Floor Supervisor to assist with daily court supervision.
- Enforce all posted court policies paying close attention to the proper footwear (non-marking tennis shoes only) of participants. Ensure only players with non-marking tennis shoes play on the new courts.
- Coordinate tennis reservations with other internal campus users (Intramural sports, summer camps, Rec Classes and special events) to ensure overlaps due not occur.
- Maintain tennis court reservation calendar at least one-month in advance.
- Ensure all court closures are communicated in writing (posted) and on VMS at least 14 days prior to the closures.
- Manage “594-TENs” tennis court reservation hotline. Return telephone messages and questions.
- Meet with ENS instructors and Aztec tennis coaches to ensure practices and tournaments do not overlap w/recreation.
- Assist with developing the recreational tennis program including open ladder tournaments.
- Perform daily facility checks paying close attention to the condition of the courts prior to starting the shift.
- Assist with market research through periodic surveys.
- Perform “public relations” duties in the facility; act as liaison to ARC members; if appropriate, identify yourself and greet members as they enter the courts.

Tennis Court Supervisor
Description:
Under the supervision of the part-time Tennis Lead, the Tennis Court Supervisor will be responsible for assisting in customer service and facility supervision of the SDSU Tennis Courts during recreational play.
