University Affairs Board
The University Affairs Board (UAB) is an Associated Students (A.S.) committee which empowers students to take responsibility over the quality of their education and overall experience at San Diego State University. By serving on the board, students have the opportunity to participate in the affairs of SDSU while advocating for student concerns and interests.
UAB also gives students the opportunity to take their involvement to the next level, by facilitating student appointments to seats on the University Senate. The University Senate is SDSU’s delegate assembly in which faculty, administration, staff, and students create policies and procedures that govern the campus community.
History of UAB
The University Affairs Board was created 11 years ago and in that time has tackled issues related to shared governance, diversity, impaction and enrollment management. Through the UAB, students have had the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions on these and other issues and advocate to make change on campus.
The UAB has also put on a number of events such as the University Senate Committees Conference, the Summit on University Affairs, and the Faculty-Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
Making an Impact
SDSU is nationally-renowned for its system of shared governance which gives students a voice in the decisions that affect them. Working closely with the SDSU administration and University Senate, the UAB and A.S. facilitate these partnerships, giving students a voice in their education and experience.
UAB members regularly meet with other campus decision makers and also draft and present resolutions to the AS Council which, if passed, have the potential to affect real change on campus.
Commitment
Students who join UAB are required to attend weekly meetings during the academic semester. Being a part of the board can greatly enrich a student’s college experience so members are encouraged to take an active role on the board working closely with other UAB and A.S. leaders to research, develop, and execute solutions to issues that SDSU students are facing.
UAB members are also encouraged to sit on a University Senate committee.
Meetings
The University Affairs Board meets each Wednesday at 1 pm in Aztec Mesa 113. Meetings are open to the public and membership on the board is open to all interested students. To apply for UAB, please visit the A.S. Boards and Committees application website.
