Award Descriptions
Daniel B. Nowak Outstanding Student Service Award
Shall be awarded each year to no more than one (1) student who has contributed outstanding effort, time and achievement toward furthering the interest of the student body and San Diego State over at least a one year period.
Daniel P. Goodrich Award
Shall be awarded to a graduating senior who has served San Diego State and the student body in a varied manner (i.e., student government, clubs, community service, etc.) throughout his/her San Diego State career.
Outstanding Graduate Student Service Award
Shall be awarded to a graduate student who has contributed outstanding effort, time and achievement toward furthering the interest of the student body and San Diego State University beyond the scope of his/her graduate program.
Shuford C. Swift Award
Shall be awarded to a student-at-large, who has distinguished him/herself over a period of at least two (2) years for service, achievement, effort, and involvement in varied aspects of student government to include: serving on Boards, Committees, and other aspects which might include Faculty Senate or its committees, campus policy committees, student orientation. etc.
Most Outstanding Freshman Award
Shall be awarded to a first-year freshman who has made significant contributions to the University and demonstrated a commitment to carrying out the mission, goals and values of Associated Students.
Dean Herbert Peiffer Award
Shall be made to the male student who has completed ninety (90) or more units and has exhibited outstanding leadership and motivation at San Diego State, particularly in the last year, and is most likely to bring outstanding honor to San Diego State University.
Dean Margery Warmer Award
Shall be made to the female student who has completed ninety (90) or more units and has exhibited outstanding leadership and motivation at San Diego State, particularly in the last year, and is most likely to bring outstanding honor to San Diego State University.
Life Passes
Two Life Passes to all home activities sponsored by the Association may be granted by the Awards Committee to a person found qualified with regard to services, cooperation and effort toward furthering the interest of San Diego State University.
Harvey Goodfriend Award
Shall be awarded to an outstanding University or Auxiliary staff member who has made outstanding contributions to the betterment and welfare of the Associated Students, Inc. The person must have been employed by the Associated Students or the University for a period of not less than two (2) years and has not received a life pass. The award shall consist of a life pass to all home activities sponsored by the Association.
Malcolm A. Love Award
Shall be awarded to a member of the SDSU faculty who has made outstanding contributions to the Associated Students over a two-year period.
Outstanding Alumni Award
Shall be awarded to an Alumnus who has made outstanding contributions to the University by virtue of his/her involvement in society.
Outstanding Faculty Awards
Shall be awarded to one faculty member, nominated by one of the seven (8) College Councils or a recognized student organization. This award is to recognize the outstanding contribution faculty make(s) to the quality of education.
Board and College Council Awards
Outstanding A.S. Board & Committee Award
Shall be awarded to the Board or Committee whose members have not only exhibited outstanding achievements within their area but also possess leadership qualities that other boards could follow.
Outstanding College Council Award
Shall be awarded to the College Council whose members have not only exhibited outstanding achievements within their area but also possess leadership qualities that other councils could follow.
Most Improved A.S. Board & Committee Award
Shall be awarded to the Board or Committee and its Chair who have each made significant improvements within the last year in various areas that relate directly to that Board. This may include programming, membership, promotions, student leadership training, campus and/or community service.
Most Improved College Council Award
Shall be awarded to the College Council and its Chair who have each made significant improvements within the last year in various areas that relate directly to that College Council. This may include programming, membership, promotions, student leadership training, campus and/or community service.
Board/Committee Member of the Year Award
Shall be awarded to one Board member nominated by the board, which the nominee serves. The nominee must be a student and may not be the Chair of the board or an "A.S. Council representative" seat on the board. Board and committee chairs are not eligible.
Outstanding Student Organization
Shall be awarded to the student organization, which has demonstrated excellence in programming, community service, service to SDSU, student leadership training, field or interest, or has been recognized nationally/regionally by parent organization, if applicable.
Outstanding Advisor Award
Shall be awarded to one (1) student organization advisor who has
contributed outstanding time, effort and guidance to help further
the interests and goals of his/her respective Board, Committee,
club/organization or College Council.
The Dr. Stephen L. & Mrs. Susan K. Weber Lamp of Leadership Award
Shall be awarded to graduating students who have served a minimum of 2 years (4 semesters) as A.S. Council members, all current graduating A.S. Council members and all former A.S. Executive Officers graduating from San Diego State University. The award shall consist of an appropriately inscribed medal to be worn during commencement ceremonies. Former A.S. Council members must fill out a nomination form and turn it in to the Government Affairs Office by the deadline set by the Awards Committee.
Best Retention Practices Award
Shall be awarded to one (1) faculty or staff member who has been identified as showing specific practices that lead to student continuation, i.e., what the nominees did to demonstrate their dedication to effective teaching, student learning, student development, or service to students.
Dean Carole Robasciotti Outstanding Faculty Community Service-Learning Award
Shall be awarded to a faculty or staff member, student, community member or community organization who enhances student learning and civic responsibility through active scholarly and practical involvement in service learning for a minimum of at least one (1) year.
Aztec Pride Award
Shall be awarded to a student who has contributed to establishing pride and tradition on the SDSU campus through any number of forms including but not limited to academics, athletics, student organizations, community service, etc.
